70's Extravaganza

Well another costume event has passed and I was able to pull out another great idea for my husband's costume. (Always for my husband...never for myself). Anyway,  we attended a 70's costume party to raise money for a charity. I wanted to do something different from the pimps, hippies, and disco dancers. I decided to show tribute to a great TV show during that time, What's Happening, I dressed my him up as Rerun. He received so many compliments and laughs that I lost count.

This was a simple costume to put together.  Since he already had a plaid shirt and sneakers, so I just bought the red beret, the rainbow suspenders, and plain red medical scrubs pants. All from Amazon for less than $20.

And of course he won first prize...again!

My costume is store bought - not my ideal move, but I was short on time.  I showed my tribute to Saturday Night Fever. How can you not love John Travolta?!?!? I feel I made it my own.

What Big Teeth You Have Grandma....

This year I decided to make an illusion costume which I found to be more challenging than I expected. There was a couple of days that I just wanted to abort the entire project and just go to Party City. However, I stuck it out and finished it.

**Thank you YouTube for the tutorial!!!**

I am not going to explain how I make it because honestly, I am not sure how to explain it since I combined three different methods together.

As my husband was passing out candy, I was walking up and down the driveway looking for my arm. The kids were afraid and parents were amazed so it was a win-win for me!

King Jaffe Joffer Costume

As my Halloween party approached quickly, I had a great idea for my husband's homemade costume. Just about everyone has seen the classic movie Coming to America, starring Eddie Murphy. My hubby would make a great King Jaffe Joffer! I must say that creating this costume was so much fun and inexpensive.

He went home with first prize!

Home-made Vending Machine Costume

This year I decided to make a homemade Halloween costume for my daughter. She wanted to be something different from the common princess. After much research, we agreed that a vending machine costume was very unique.  Although this was somewhat time consuming, it was very easy to make.

I cut two arm holes, a hole at the top for her head, a hole in front of the box for the display window, and three sides for the candy slot (save the cutout pieces).  Then I covered a cardboard box with black duct tape. I covered the candy slot with gray duct tape. I then used black duct tape to secure the clear plastic sheet over the hole in the front of the box.

I took the large leftover cutout piece and folded the top 1 inch. I then covered the entire piece with gray duct tape. (Don’t forget to make ledges). I then made circles with the pipe cleaner and secured to the ledges then I added the candy. Once that was completed, I taped it to the inside front of the box by the folded flap.

I added all the finishing touches to the outside of the box to transform this into a vending machine.

It turned out great. My daughter was a huge it at her costume party. I even was able to use it for the Halloween party I attend. Great hit there too!
